January, 2012
Dear Ministry Partners,
Greetings from Lokichoggio, Kenya. It’s the 2nd
of January and it’s around 100 degrees here in Lokichoggio.
I’m sitting here filtering some water and trying
to update gospeltecture’s web site. The containers for the filtered
water don’t seem to be filling up too fast – I
think I’m drinking it about as fast as I can filter it.
We had a lot of rain in October and November (very
unusual for Loki) but now it’s hot, dry and dusty (not unusual for
Loki).
I am still hopeful that, one day, we will have
electricity in Loki. The promise is still there and, occasionally,
I do see
some work going on. I'm sure - someday!!
I hope you all had a
wonderful Christmas and I wish you all a most blessed New Year.
Christmas at my church here was a 6 hour event.
The day began with singing and dancing.
I taught a Bible study in the morning and then
there were several events that followed during the next 5 ½ hours.
The kids sang and recited their Bible verses, our
Pastor preached from the book of Isaiah and there was more
singing and dancing and then three or four Bible
skits performed by the youth. At the end of the service we
ate chapati and (everyone except me – I don’t like
chai) drank chai.
The young men in our discipleship program are;
Ewesit Munyes (Emanuel), Ekuyen Lokitaung (Samuel),
Nebo Kapua (Nebo). These guys are doing fantastic
in the program. They have all memorized the verses so
that they now can use the “Roman Road” as a tool
for evangelism. We also use a series of lessons written by
Mike Story as a training tool. We have translated
the “Roman Road” into Turkana so that others in the church
can learn. Too, we will be translating all of the
discipleship lesson so that these first three guys can then take
them to the village.
The church has a well but the hand pump has been
broken for some time now. I’m in the process of repairing it.
So far the women of the church have built a fence
around the pump, the men helped me removed the pump and
I have repaired the cylinder. I have chlorinated
the well and now we are ready to install the pump.
Take a look at our picture page. I’ve included
pictures of the church and some from when the ladies were
building the fence around the well. I’ll update our site
again when we have completed the well project.
It’s a joy to serve Him,
Mike
